The next group to be honoured in the Charleville Park Hotel on Saturday night are the U21s that did the three in a row in 1998, 1999 and 2000
1998 was the beginning of a triology. Newtown won the first of three U21 countys in 1998 beating Na Piarsaigh in a replay. Newtown gave a marvellous display of skill and heart to take the title. The side was captained by Paddy Egan.
1998
In 1999, Mike Morrissey captained the winning side. Newtown beat Erins Own on a scoreline of Newtown 1-13 to Erins Own 1-07.
1999
And in 2000, the Newtown U21s captured a third county title in a row. Captain Philip Noonan lifted the county cup after Newtown defeated Glen Rovers, 1-17 to 1-07. Bernie O’Connor, Liam Ryan and Seanie Clifford guided Newtown to the three in a row which was an unbelievable achievement for our club.
