On Tuesday 13th December the Club held an open meeting to get feedback on dealing with the issues around transitioning from Juvenile to Adult hurling.

This is a national issue across many sports affecting player participation at adult level.

The meeting was well attended by Parents, Junior & Senior Management, Juvenile Coaches, Club members & Club Officers.

It was an open meeting where each attendee had the opportunity to share their thoughts on Player Pathway to Adult Hurling.

Following the first meeting last Tuesday night it was agreed a follow-up meeting will be held on the 3rd week of January to decide on the next steps.

• Unanimously agreed that players coming out of the Juvenile Club need to be minded and given the best possible opportunity to reach their full potential.

• This age group are very vulnerable to losing interest and connection with the Club due to a lack of a clear development pathway being in place.

• Full agreement that a Player Pathway to Adult Hurling is of massive importance for the future of the Club.

• A Co-ordinated Athletic Development programme will be set up & coordinated for players leaving the Juvenile Club. A role to be created to coordinate this Programme supporting the S&C Personal.

• Proposed U18 or U19 Tournament (7 aside or 15 aside) to be hosted by Newtownshandrum during the year to provide more games and a purpose/focus for this age group.

• Our Second Team would participate in the Junior A North Cork Championship and Division 1 League while also fielding a Team at Junior B, ensuring there is a space for players of all levels.

• Senior Management to identify their panel for the 2023 season before the next meeting.

• Follow Up Meeting for January 17th.
